Identifying emotions through videos

 Appropriate Population:

  • 4 years and up
  • Mild delay or age-appropriate cognitive and language skills

Goal: Identifying others’ emotions 

  • Understanding emotion
  • Perspective-taking

Steps:

  1. Search for an appropriate video (tip: search for short animated stories on youtube)
  2. Watch the video with the client.
  3. Pause the video at specific areas where strong emotions are shown
  4. Identify what emotions were portrayed in the video

Step-up: 

  • Discuss why the character(s) were feeling that emotion

Step down:

  • AHA to provide fixed choices for what emotion was portrayed (ie: angry or confused)
