Identifying emotions through videos
Appropriate Population:
- 4 years and up
- Mild delay or age-appropriate cognitive and language skills
Goal: Identifying others’ emotions
- Understanding emotion
- Perspective-taking
Steps:
- Search for an appropriate video (tip: search for short animated stories on youtube)
- Watch the video with the client.
- Pause the video at specific areas where strong emotions are shown
- Identify what emotions were portrayed in the video
Step-up:
- Discuss why the character(s) were feeling that emotion
Step down:
- AHA to provide fixed choices for what emotion was portrayed (ie: angry or confused)
