Conversations with toys

Appropriate Population: 

  • 3-6 years old
  • Moderate or mild delay or age-appropriate cognitive and language abilities

Goal: Staying on topic

  • Answering questions
  • Initiating conversation
  • Participating in conversation
  • Giving information

Steps:

  1. Ask the client to choose a soft toy animal to have a conversation with
  2. AHA or client can choose a topic. 
  3. Have a conversation between client and soft toy (AHA)

Step-up: 

  • Client to start the conversation
  • Client to end the conversation
  • Choose a topic which is not one of the client’s passions

Step down:

  • Give one sentence about the topic.
  • Keep each conversation to a specific amount of time (ie: 3 minute conversations)
