Last Updated: 15 August 2023

Appropriate Population:

  • School-age (5 years and up)
  • Mild delay or age-appropriate cognitive and language abilities

Goal:

  • Identifying problems
  • Problem-solving
  • Identifying others’ emotions
  • Perspective-taking

Steps:

  1. You have the option of reading out the book yourself (put the video on mute), or letting the video play with the read-aloud voiceover. Choose the most suitable option based on your client’s language and attentional abilities.
  2. Pause the video after each page.
  3. Discuss the problems which occurred to Alexander on that page.
  4. Choose one of the problems and discuss how you would solve the problem.

Step-up:

  • Ask the client to independently identify the problems which occurred on each page.
  • Discuss solutions to each of the problems.
  • Discuss the pros and cons of multiple solutions you and your client come up with and pick the best solution.

Step down:

  • Choose one problem from the page and ask the client if they can identify the problem.
